MB&F presents the MAD 1 "GMT Milano"

More broadly, the MAD 1 is avant-garde in terms of design and certainly looks like an MB&F creation – but it executes in a very economical way. While the design is striking, one of my reservations about the MAD 1 is the case construction, which relies on glue to hold everything together. But again, for its retail price, it's acceptable.
On value: Some examples of the standard MAD 1 are changing hands on the secondary market for three to four times their retail price—an absurd value considering its intrinsic features and $10,000-mark replacements. Not surprisingly, MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser has chosen his most approachable creations to commemorate his partnership with GMT Italia. The retailer, short for Great Masters of Time, was founded by father-son duo George and Michelle Corvo. Mr Büsser's relationship with the Corvo family began with his work at Jaeger-LeCoultre and Harry Winston in the 1990s and continued with the launch of MB&F in 2005.
MAD 1 "GMT Milano" pays homage to this friendship. It features a gold-plated pink finish on the movement, a first for this model. The MAD 1 "GMT Milano" is identical to the standard version except for the gold-plated finish on the surface. Case diameter 42mm, height 18.8mm. That might sound heavy, but it's a lightweight watch, thanks in part to the aluminum ring used for the time display.
Instead of traditional hands, the MAD 1 "GMT Milano" relies on a rotating ring to indicate hours and minutes in a horizontal display, which reads like MB&F models such as the HM8 "Can-Am". The time is read from the lower edge of the watch at six o'clock, with the crown at the opposite 12 o'clock position.
MAD 1 is powered by Miyota cal. The 821A has been inverted so the rotor is visible from the front. The time ring is then driven by long spokes connected to the cannon pinion on the back.
